The Happening- 1967 Event

On Saturday 11th November the University’s Art Collection threw open the doors of the Pathfoot Building for an event celebrating the revolutionary spirit of 1967. The Happening recreated the artistic and intellectual spirit of the era that spawned flower power, the counter culture and civil rights. The musical revolution of the period provides the centerpiece of events with an exhibition in the Crush Hall highlighting the key songs of 1967.
Events began with a family-friendly range of activities including screening of the Jungle Book art workshops, tie-dying classes, 1960s music pop quiz and tours of the new 1967 themed exhibition. We recreated the classic 60s look with our vintage hairdressers and dressing-up boxes, and revisited those rainy childhood afternoons with a selection of board games from the period – all soundtracked by a selection of the musical highlights of 1967 curated by DJ Groovy Dave T.

Things turned even groovier after 7pm with an evening of film and music beginning with a screening of The Graduate, one of the key films of 1967 and then the Crush Hall hosted our #Stirling50 Disco with DJ Karlski providing a musical journey through 50 years of student disco classics, taking the dancefloor from the psychedelic pop of 1967 through soul, ska, disco, punk, acid house, Britpop, hip-hop and all points in between!
